Couldn’t get a Ticket to FoBAB Barrel Aged Beer Event. Kicks-Off Thursday, Nov 19th

barrel aged beer picIt’s that time of year again, for those who couldn’t get a ticket to FoBaB and those who could, when we roll out the barrels of barrel aged beers. As always, festiviteis will kick-off on the Thursday night preceeding FoBaB the annual Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers that takes place in Chicago on Friday and Saturday November 20th & 21st. We’lll start with 10-13 draft lines devoted to the barrel aged brews along with some special bottles and we’ll have another 10 +/- barrels waiting in the wings to be tapped as soon as the others run dry. Festivities kick-off Thursday Nov 19th but will continue over the weekend and ensuing weeks as supplies last. So… do it the Chicago way, come early and come often and be sure to sample from the evolving and changing list. Beers on hand will include the following with more to come:

5 Rabbit Red Wine Barrel Aged Ponche, Bedford Park, IL, 6oz, 10.6% – A Barlywine aged 8 months in red wine barrels.

2013 Straffe Hendrik Heritage, Brugge, Belgium, 6oz, 11% – Belgian Quadruple aged in three types of oak casks for over a year then blended together producing an aroma and flavor of sweet malt, toffee, ripe dark fruit, raisins, vanilla, a hint of oak, booze and a touch of bourbon. Glass 7.50

Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Aged Cereal Killer, Battle Creek, MI, 6oz, 12% – An English-style barley wine aged 22 months in oak bourbon barrels with robust malty flavors of caramel, toffee, molasses and a subtle citrus finish from the hops. Glass 6.50

Arcadia Shipwreck, Battle Creek, MI, 6oz, 12% – A Baltic-style porter with pronounced notes of vanilla, oak, cocoa and coffee, that is aged, in abandoned mines in Michigan at a constant temperature of 45F, for 12 months in 10-year-old Kentucky bourbon oak barrels. Glass 6.50

Begyle Barrel Aged Barleywine, Chicago, IL, 6 oz, 9.8% – American barley wine aged six months in a combination of Heaven & Hill, Elijah Craig 12 year and Evan Williams bourbon barrels. Glass 6

Breckenridge 471 IPA, Denver, CO, 6oz, 9.2% – An imperial IPA aged in Wild Turkey or Buffalo Trace barrels and dry hopped with Hull Melon hops. Traces of honeydew melon and apricot accompany rich whiskey and slightly smoky aromas. Glass 5.50

Cahoots AmEn!, Oak Park, IL, 6oz, 10.1% – A blend of American and English style barleywine aged in Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. Glass 6.50

Cahoots Barrel Aged No S’mores, Oak Park, IL, 6oz, 10% – A sweet imperial stout brewed with vanilla beans and a single malt scotch infusion that is aged in Buffalo Trace barrels for 4 months +/-. Glass 6.50

Central Waters Brewer’s Reserve Headless Heron, Amherst, WI, 6oz, 8.5% – A pumpkin scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels with nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Glass 5

Central Waters Brewer’s Reserve Scotch Ale, Amherst, IL, 6oz, 9.5% – Cherrywood smoked Scotch ale aged in used 12 year old bourbon barrels. Glass 5

Founders Backwoods Bastard, Grand Rapids, MI, 6oz, 11.6% – A Scotch ale aged in oak bourbon barrels with an aroma of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. Glass 5.50

Grand Teton Barrel Aged Lazy Marmot, Victor ID, 6oz, 8% – A Maibock aged in freshly-dumped Jackson Hole Winery Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. Glass 6.50

Hinterland 2014 Bourbon Barrel Dopplebock, Greenbay, WI, 6oz, 8% – Aged 10-12 months in bourbon barrels, a full bodied dopplebock with a dark amber color and pronounced notes of caramel, oak and bourbon. Glass 6.50

Revolution Straight Jacket, Chicago, IL, 6oz, 13% – A barley wine aged 6 months in Woodford Reserve barrels with deep aromas and flavors of dark stone fruits, bourbon, molasses, toasted coconut and vanilla. Glass 6.50

Revolution Ryeway to Heaven, Chicago, IL, 6oz, 13.7% – A Strong Ale brewed with a heavy dose of rye and aged in Heaven Hill rye whiskey barrels. Glass 6.50
